Word reaches me from the Community Rail Awards 2019...

Unfortunately, this forum, entered in the 'Best Community Engagement' category, failed to place.

However, Graham Ellis (grahame), our forum founder, placed second in the 'Outstanding Volunteer Contribution' category. Congratulations Graham!

A word of thanks also to forum administrator Chris Hankin (Chris from Nailsea), and GWRs▸ (Great Western Railway) Head of Public Affairs, Jane Jones, for their letters of support for Graham's entry in this award category. Thanks also to Bob Morrison (bobm) for coordinating the entry and writing the introduction. Graham's name was put forward for this award category after a motion at this forum's first AGM▸ (Annual General Meeting) in June 2019.

Thank you.    In "Oscar" style, I really wish I'd been able to stand up and thank everyone.   That's heartfelt - you mention CfN and Bobm and Jane - but there are so many others.  Without that teamwork, I could not shout about ll the great things because there would not be those great things!

Congratulations, I followed the awards on the Modern Railways Twitter feed last night. They only mentioned the winners and it was a good to see you awarded second place when I logged on this morning.

Julie Gibbon's outstanding work is celebrated in the event "glossy" ... with a shorter piece on each of the two runners up.   Scanned extract below.   Community Rail spans the north, the south and the midlands and (as Jools Townsend, ACoRP▸ (Association of Community Rail Partnerships) CEO▸ (Chief Executive Officer) commented as she introduced this catergory), it's the most strongly contested and most difficult to judge of all the categories





Quite extraordinary what has been done at Haltwhistle Station ... and aspirations for similar facilities at Melksham. And I note again that we can learn in Melksham with regard to bringing new visitors to the town.   Early days yet, though - Julie over 20 years with the group, with a useful train service at Haltwhistle all that time;  not yet six years since Melksham returned to a marketable service level. And I can look at Julie's qualities described and only aspire to some of them.  An example to us all.

And more in the News and Star from Cumberland.  The Devon and Cornwall Community Rail Partnership and the TransWilts were congratulated (by CRP▸ (Community Rail Partnership) name not be entry) by Chris Heaton-Harris in his talk at the GWR▸ (Great Western Railway) Stakeholder event yesterday - so Community Rail is indeed recognised at the new political level.   Honourable mention from me for Severnside who were also placed in a category.
