Norfolk rail line to remain closed as £68m upgrade project overruns

A major railway upgrade project has been delayed, meaning a Norfolk branch line will go longer without a service.

Network Rail is spending £68m to replace Victorian signalling equipment with a computer-based system between Norwich, Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft .

The project was due to be complete by 31 March, but the deadline will now be pushed back to allow for more testing.
It means the line from Reedham to Great Yarmouth via Berney Arms, closed since October, will remain shut.

The hordes of commuters to and from Berney Arms will be very disappointed by this news.

How is the pub surviving? They can hardly run a rail replacement bus.

Yes, it closed in 2015.

The planning authority (The Broads Authority) refused an application from the owner to convert it into a dwelling. Local campaigners (well, not that local due to the remote location!) are trying to purchase and reopen as a public house. Slow progress apparently, and as far as I can gather it is not publicly on the market since being withdrawn from auction in June 2016.

But, maybe if you can find £150,000 or so, and contact the owner, the freehold could be yours.

No reason why they can't run an RRB (Rail Replacement Bus).

Do you have a link to a current auction listing? It was withdrawn from auction in June 2016. I can't find any current listing.

Are you sure you've got the right Berney Arms? There's another up near King's Lynn.
