Unusual and slightly disconcerting for a normal midweek service (or is it the half-term effect?):

13:22 London Paddington to Worcester Shrub Hill due 15:27 will be cancelled.
This is due to a shortage of train crew.

15:52 Worcester Shrub Hill to London Paddington due 18:00 will be cancelled.

Does the stock for this working usually travel to Hereford via The Severn Tunnel and Abergavenny?  The blockade on The Marches Line will be operative for at least a week, I heard on't wireless.

Haven't had a chance to look at the full effects of this though it did put a massive hole in the afternoon schedule:

Cancellations to services between Oxford and Moreton-In-Marsh

Following a broken down train between Oxford and Moreton-in-Marsh all lines have now reopened.

Train services running through these stations are returning to normal but some services may still be cancelled, delayed by up to 45 minutes or revised. Disruption is expected until 20:00 29/10.

Seems to have been the 13:22 Paddington to Worcester Shrub Hill which broke down between Wolvercote Junction and Charlbury. Realtime Trains says it eventually arrived at Charlbury 136 late before being returned to Oxford.

The 14:21 Paddington to Worcester Foregate Street was terminated at Oxford. The 15:22 Paddington to Great Malvern left Oxford 71 late and is now terminating at WOS^» (Worcester Shrub Hill - next trains). And the 15:50 Paddington to Moreton-in-Marsh was cancelled throughout (for the second day running).

Yesterday (Tuesday October 29) seems to have been a very bad day all over, with lots of failures across the network.

The Cotswold Line suffered a train failure in the single track between Oxford and Charlbury. For the record, the full list of consequences:

12:22 Paddington - Shrub Hill : operated normally
13:22 Paddington - Shrub Hill : cancelled after Charlbury. RTT^» (Real Time Trains - website) reports left Charlbury towards Oxford 136 late.
14:21 Paddington - Foregate St : waited 24 at Didcot (deciding whether to run via Stroud?). Eventually sent to Oxford and cancelled there, 28 late.
15:22 Paddington - Great Malvern : also waited at Didcot. To Oxford (arr 55 late, dep 72 late), cancelled after Shrub Hill.
15:50 Paddington - Moreton : cancelled throughout.
16:22 Paddington - Great Malvern : Oxford arr 16 late, dep 20 late. Arr Foregate St 5 late. Cancelled thereafter.
17:22 Paddington - Hereford : ran normally

12:09 Hereford - Paddington : operated normally
13:58 Foregate St - Paddington : 112 late on departure from Charlbury, 121 late at Paddington
15:22 Shrub Hill - Paddington : ran via Stroud. Arr Paddington 11 late.
15:52 Shrub Hill - Paddington : cancelled throughout
15:14 Hereford - Paddington : ran via Evesham. 25 late away from Evesham, 15 late away fom Oxford, 15 late into Paddington.
17:38 Moreton - Paddington : cancelled throughout.
17:26 Foregate St - Paddington : cancelled throughout.
18:29 Great Malvern - Paddington : Started from Shrub Hill.

I wondered that.  I guess there are no paths for an additional down ECS^▸ (Empty Coaching Stock) working between Worcester Shrub Hill and Hereford at that time of day.  The long single line sections have a severely limiting affect on capacity.

In normal times, there are three GWR^▸ (Great Western Railway) trains that start at Hereford in the morning:

    the 04:47 to Paddington spends the night at Hereford;
    the 05:28 starts as ECS^▸ (Empty Coaching Stock) from Stoke Gifford (at 03:30); and
    the 06:42 starts as ECS from Stoke Gifford (at 04:43).

For this week, the first two are both spending the night at Hereford.

The third one is still setting off from Stoke Gifford at 04:43, but probably can't get to Hereford via Worcester and Malvern in time to depart at 06:42. As it is, it's spending 1:20 waiting time in Eckington loop, between Cheltenham and Worcester.

Attached is a quick version of the track occupation diagram early in the morning. The green lines are the GWR trains; the red ones are WMR. The dashed green line is the 06:42 HFD^» (Hereford - next trains)-PAD^» (Paddington (London) - next trains). It looks as if it could get to Hereford by an early path crossing the 05:28 HFD-PAD at Ledbury - but it would have to leave Stoke Gifford earlier in order to do that.

Looking at the last updated timing, seems it might have been a very late call. And (almost immediate change) maybe GWR^▸ (Great Western Railway) are sorting something out:
