I have summarised the log (this thread) for July and current data at
http://www.mrug.org.uk/record.html ...
Of a total of 530 timetabled train services (data at Melksham)
298 - ran on time
174 - ran delayed by less than 10 minutes
34 - trains cancelled
15 - buses (planned / scheduled engineering) - no idea of their timekeeping at Melksham
11 - ran but seriously late (52, 46, 40, 27, 25, 24, 23, 14, 14, 13 and 11 minutes late)
Note - adds up to 532 as 2 extra buses ran (15 buses for 13 trains on 7th July)
Cancellation reasons:
7 - a fault on this train
2 - a broken down train
6 - a shortage of train crew
15 - a fault with the signalling system
2 - a fault with the signalling system earlier today
2 - more trains than usual needing repairs at the same time
At least 5 trains failed to call at all booked stations. Possibly not a complete list - autolog does not cover this
2 terminated at Chippenham
1 which should have been from Weymouth started at Westbury
1 to Weymouth skipped Frome
1 started from Chippenham rather than Swindon
Cancellations and delays (by day of week)
Monday 6 cancelled 3 very late
Tuesday 3 cancelled 2 very late
Wednesday 2 cancelled 4 very late
Thursday 2 cancelled 1 very late
Friday 4 cancelled 0 very late
Saturday 11 cancelled 1 very late
Sunday 6 cancelled 0 very late 13 replaced by buses
Note - 1st 3 days of month had no problems - so this can be read as either a last 28 day or last 31 day log
Longest delays -
124 minutes (12:03 to Swindon on 29th - got stuck at Thingley and terminated at Chippenham at 13:36, 84 minutes late. Connection did not reach Swindon until 14:36 - 124 minutes after it was due!)
7th July / Bus from Swindon to Chippenham, 10 minutes late from Swindon, passed bus to Trowbridge as it went up the hill to the station on Chippenham and connecting passengers had option of waiting 2 hours for next bus or carrying on, by bus, to Bath for a train for Trowbridge. Passenger on bus from Swindon reported that the bus leaving for Trowbridge that they passed looked empty. Around lunch time?
Note - the extra northbound bus on Sunday 7th July really appreciated as it provides cover both for people who need to leave earlier when it's a bus (slower) to get to work on time, and also those who really cannot leave until the normal train time.
