Relettering of coaches for reservations

In order to obtain a consistent reservation format across the fleet, coaches E and F have become H and J respectively from today. HST^▸ (High Speed Train (Inter City class 43 125 units)) formations will now consist of ABCDHJKL.

So no more "E" and "F".

Apart of these Hybrid Reservations that GWR^▸ (Great Western Railway) are introducing.

Where are these Quiet Carrage stickers for the IETs^▸ (Intercity Express Train - replacement for HSTs (manufactured by Hitachi in Kobe, Japan)) though? On Mark Hopwood, he’s quiet..

Why are they persisting with letters on the coaches at all for IETs^▸ (Intercity Express Train - replacement for HSTs (manufactured by Hitachi in Kobe, Japan)), when the station announcements usually refer to numbers that in some cases have been painted on the platforms for location purposes?

Been on an IET this week when there was a belt and braces approach to reservations - cards out and the electronic system being on. They did appear to have the same information.

Could be interesting when a 2x5-car IET^▸ (Intercity Express Train - replacement for HSTs (manufactured by Hitachi in Kobe, Japan)) turns up. It is possible for one or both units to be in reverse formation, so somebody with a reservation in Coach 'B' (say) could find themselves in any of coaches 2, 4, 7 or 9. You do get a slight clue with the announcement that 'First Class is located in coaches (eg) 1, 2, 9 and 10'.

I have stood on a station platform waiting to board a London-bound service when a very exasperated member of the platform staff made an announcement apologising to the waiting pax saying that he 'had no idea where their respective coaches will be in the formation'.

I wonder why dwell time is still too long at some stations.

....a very slight clue ......  I heard just that announcement at Bath Spa one day  - when the train arrived 1st was located in coaches 4, 5, 6 & 7 !!!!  They got the train right though !!
