Looking at what looks like the phone kiosk I can see it's not in Germany as it's not yellow. It does look northern European, possibly one of the low countries.
Aren't the phone booths in Germany pink/purple? Same colour as T-Mobile. I recall they are branded as T- something or other. |

I'm sure they had the same colour as the Bundespost letter boxes when I used to visit Hamburg yearly since childhood in the 1960s. They might be different now though. |

The preponderance of blue and grey seems to indicate France, Belgium or Italy. I will hazard a guess (see wot I did there!) at Namur !

Not low. The answer is Niagara, where I arrived by Amtrak after a 9-hour ride from New York Penn Station.  The time passed quickly, with much to see out of the window. We rode business class, which was very comfortable and included endless coffee. The carriage seemed a little dated compared to the HSTs▸ - even more so against IET▸ - and the road was a little rockier in parts than the GWR▸ , but it was thoroughly enjoyable. The WiFi worked perfectly, too. Everybody had to get off the train with all of their luggage for a border check. We didn't mind as we had reached our destination. I had been told that the American side of the falls is tackier than the Canadian side. The resort there was a bit like Blackpool, but without the sophistication. The Falls themselves are absolutely splendid. After two nights in Niagara, we caught the train to Toronto, then a couple of days later we moved on to Kingston, Ontario on this:  On our way home, we stop over for a few days in a country with no railway at all. |

Iceland may not have any railways now, but the former Reykjavik Harbour Railway must have the unique distinction of having its entire locomotive fleet preserved, although there were only ever two of them - see Wikipedia for details
PS - Brilliant puzzle FTN - I spent half an hour stuck on a delayed train this evening Googling Dutch railway stations fruitlessly!

Ironically, Niagara Falls Station was originally constructed in 1879 by Canada's (or British North America's?) Great Western Railway/Road. It was Listed in 1995! I agree with your comment on the tawdriness of much of the USA. Coming here soon... OTC |
