Passengers on a train with no toilet were told they could get off and use the facilities at a station - only for the service to leave without them.

An announcement on the Arriva Trains Wales service from Haverfordwest to Cardiff told passengers to take a loo break at Carmarthen if they needed one.

None of the trains on toilets on the two-and-a-half-hour trip were working but six passengers including a 15-year-old girl got out at the station.

However the train left the platform before they could get back on, The Sun reported.

Don't worry, things can only get better in the new franchise! :

For services from Treherbert, Aberdare and Merthyr into Cardiff Central and Cardiff Bay, 36 tram-trains, which will operate in battery mode on sections of the lines not electrified, are being commissioned.

They will not have toilets. However, a requirement of the procurement, process overseen by Transport for Wales, was for a significant investment in toilet facilities on stations.

This will mean wherever on the tram-train network passengers will be no more than 14 minutes away from a toilet.

We will invest £738m to transform the valley lines to Treherbert, Aberdare, Merthyr Tydfil, Rhymney and Coryton, electrifying 172 km of track and upgrading infrastructure to enable improved journey times and more trains every hour.

Remove Pacer trains by December 2019.
Introduce a Central Metro that improves journey times and increases frequency to at least four trains per hour from the head of each using new trains.
Introduce new Metro Vehicles with level boarding by December 2022, which will provide a modern metro-style service to the Treherbert, Aberdare and Merthyr valleys.
