Good morning to you all. l have been viewing this forum for quite a few years and have gained a lot of information from it. l have decided to join as l hope to give some knowledge back. Also l would like to give praise to Grahame for what he did on the imber running day. On the train from westbury to warminister he asked a person if the seat next to her was available (she had her bags on it). She said yes with a grimness on her face but Grahame had helped  an older person get a seat. l wished he was on the 150 that l got back to Bristol as a guy took up 3 seats!

And welcome from me as well, old shire!

And a welcome from me too. Please add views and thoughts as well as knowledge - I look forward to seeing further contributions from you. Wink

I'm presently the Community Rail Officer (CRO) for the TransWilts Community Rail Partnership - though leaving that role as my replacement comes on board.  And it's my view that a CRO on his/her territory may/should act as a lightweight safety net to help his/her passengers/customers.  Thus the occasional asking someone to move their bags, asking someone to step back onto the platform when they have gone trackside to photograph a steam special, helping them find onward transport when a connection into the last train of the days fails (at an unstaffed station) as I did yesterday, and many more little things have been - for me - part of what I have done.   So - thank you for the praise to which I respond "thank you, just doing my job", even though my view of that job is not universally shared.  That question of the CRO (and other Community Rail rep) role is an interesting one - I'm going to raise it in the How Stuff Works area where it's more academic than personal, and add you (Old Shire) to the "Transport Scholar" group which you clearly are

Other members can join "How Stuff Works" just by asking me or any other member of the admin team.
