At least we now have a good reason for our beefy GWML▸ (Great Western Main Line)  masts/stanchions - see how the Mk 3b ones bend!

Not necessarily a fault.  If it's an automatic signal, it may have a combined berth-and-overlap track circuit. That puts the signal 'in rear' to danger, but not this one.
And older installations don't have the facility for the signaller to put every signal to danger.
