It should be very interesting.  Guests welcome - very welcome - though very much the Wiltshire perspective on the day, with the lines / services listed on the flyer to the fore.  Whilst general GWR^▸ (Great Western Railway) aspects will be relevant and I'm sure mentioned, the agenda will be so packed with Wiltshire (and Southampton) elements that issues relevant only to other areas won't be on the table.

Is it too late to see any trialling of “cross Salisbury” services this December? 

Presumably a somewhat low priority for NR^» (Network Rail - home page) planners, what with the current Thameslink and Northern nightmares...

As a significant number ... I might look late than December.  With the three through trains from north of Salisbury that currently terminate at Southampton ...

I am delighted to announce the addition of Stephen Joseph, CEO^▸ (Chief Executive Officer) of Campaign for Better Transport (CBT^» (Campaign for Better Transport - visit)), to our speaker list for 20th June. I have amended the flyer / advert at the top of this thread.

On the CBT website, Stephen describes himself

Experience:
Stephen became the executive director of Campaign for Better Transport in 1988. His transport policy expertise is widely regarded, and he is regularly called to serve as a governmental advisor. He has led numerous successful policy campaigns, is frequently quoted by the national press, and is a regular author of research and opinion pieces.

He was awarded the OBE in 1996 for services to transport and the environment. In 2008 he was honoured with a PTRC Lifetime Achievement Award 'for furthering the role of transport planning in society'.

Why I work for Campaign for Better Transport:
People desperately need real travel choices. Our over-reliance on the car is ruining our towns and countryside, with town centres dying and acres of space being swallowed up by car parks.

A few words that describe a very long, and very effective career.  For once, I'm a bit lost for words. And a speaker who's really worth coming to listen to.

An excellent day - final agenda and combined slide set (just one talk missing) at http://atrebatia.info/20180620_slides.pdf . Around 50 delegates (good, as we had a room for 48  ) and some very valuable networking opportunities indeed - not only on the North - South corridor but also east - west across Westbury. Some excellent talks and good questions.

Good to see everyone seems to be on the same page as far as TransWilts service linkage goes. 

Just wondering though, if they get to the stage where all the GWR^▸ (Great Western Railway) services through the "Salisbury Corridor" are operated by 165 or 166 of various lengths, eg up to 5 cars on the Portsmouths,  will the SWR^» (South Western Railway - about) 158s be seen as unusual interlopers?

Would it be better for the overall product image if the Salisbury-Romsey route was also operated by the GW^» (Great Western - used as an abbreviation for the area / lines under the Great Western franchise, as opposed to FGW which includes "First", the company operating them too. For tickets - about) TOC^▸ (Train Operating Company) and used the same stock?  Perhaps with some (ie 3) SWT^▸ (South West Trains) 158s moving west to compensate?

Operational matters such as these are on the table and things being discussed, as indeed is the issue of who drives the trains on which parts of the route.
