The 2O71 Bristol to Dorchester West hit an obstruction on the track around Bruton. Arrived at Castle Cary and now listed as 5O71, presumably returning to Westbury. GWR▸ Mainline to Exeter diverted via Westbury and Bath.

Just looked on OpenTrainTimes: 5O71, which started from Castle Cary, is - as I write this - currently showing between Trowbridge and Bradford-on-Avon on the site's live maps and RealTimeTrains has 5O71 as destined for St. Philips Marsh. No line block showing at the moment between Frome and Castle Cary. 5O71: http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/O97594/2018/05/13/advancedWeymouth services showing as normal running although 2O74 (0925 BRI» -DCW) arrived at FRO» on time and was then held there for 57 minutes. There is a T3 in place from Wareham to Weymouth so nothing running over that stretch. As an aside I also see from the live map on OTT▸ that there are trains between Wareham and Swanage today. Nice ride on a day like this. Dave

2O71 struck an engineering trolley left on the line following an engineering possession last night.
On another note, expect disruption to Weymouth services tomorrow. The possession between Moreton and Weymouth is expected to overrun to Tuesday! A locomotive on an engineering train broke down last night and can't be moved until some replacement parts arrive later today. As a result, there is 800 yards of track between Dorchester and Bincombe yet to be relaid. Current plan is to open the up line temporarily for a few hours tomorrow morning to allow stabled trains out of Weymouth for the start of service tomorrow before closing again to complete the work.

Wouldn't this show up as track occupied in Westbury Panel SB▸ ?

Don't these trolleys often have insulated wheels?
Also, is the area track circuit or axle counters?
Couple more reasons why the obstruction wouldn't show on the panel. Aside from the fact it obviously didn't as a train was signalled through the section.

Wasn't all that long ago that the down sleeper hit a trolley left on the line in Cornwall after overnight work.

The line will be re-opened briefly on Monday morning to release some trapped trains at Weymouth.
As a result the 06:44 GWR▸ service is due to run.
This is not due the obstruction on the line at East Somerset Junction but the failure of an engineering train which has left a stretch of replacement track unlaid.

It does make sense to have all the problems at the same time ... better one train cancelled for 3 reasons that 3 trains cancelled for one each.

Oh dear - it really should not have gone wrong ... however, I'm noting a far higher standard of passenger information than has been the norm. Alterations to services between Weymouth and Dorchester West
Due to engineering works not being finished on time between Weymouth and Dorchester West all lines are closed. Train services running to and from these stations may be revised. Disruption is expected until the end of the day.
Customer Advice
Due to engineering works not being finished on time between Dorchester West and Weymouth the line will be closed on Monday 14 May 2018 and possibly until later in the week. Further information as to when the route will reopen will be provided during the day.
The majority of train services running to and from Weymouth will be terminated at and started back from Dorchester West with a couple of services only running to / from Yeovil Pen Mill.
Replacement road transport will convey customers in both directions between Dorchester West and Weymouth also serving Upwey. Rail ticket holders may also utilise the First Wessex route 10 bus services along the same route.
The 05:33 service from Weymouth to Bristol Parkway will start from Yeovil Pen Mill at 06:21.
The 06:44 service from Weymouth to Filton Abbey Wood will run as scheduled from Weymouth and will be the sole train service over the entire route today. - Subsequent train services which would have started from Weymouth will start from either Dorchester West or Yeovil Pen Mill.
The replacement transport may be limited and customers are advised to travel Earlier than normal in order to maintain their anticipated arrival times.

Dorchester West to Weymouth looks to be shut for tomorrow: RealTimeTrains shows nothing to Weymouth for all of Tuesday but RTT» shows usual working for Wednesday as I write this with everything through to / from Weymouth.

This is some overrun. Not the first time this has happened between Wareham and Weymouth.
