Not sure I want him driving my bus or train though.

That does remind me of when, many years ago, I was on the top deck of an Edinburgh bus charging round the big curve on Queensferry Road when I was surprised to hear two stereotypical and somewhat portly Edinburgh matrons clumping their way up the stairs. As the lurched to the front, clutching at seats, one said to the other "who does yon driver think he is, Jackie Stewart?".

That reinforced the impression I had already got that some places' buses were slow and plodding (e.g. Eastern Counties) while others would get a move on if they could (not just Edinburgh). I never did work out if this was a cultural thing or just technical - buses that never see a hill don't need big engines.

First buses around Weymouth have a window sticker advertising for drivers with package up to £19000 and opportunities for overtime.
