That's not the only inappropriate use of a kettle to have been recorded, as my niece Angie, who works in the police control room in Blackpool, explains on the TV programme "999 - What's Your Emergency".

I remember many years ago the spolling bloopers section of Punch magazine printed an article which referred to Kentucky Fried Children.

Meanwhile, news sites are reporting that staff are being encouraged to take holiday. That's a bit unfair. Losing a day, or days, holiday because KFC's new delivery partner (one with little experience in chilled/frozen food distribution) has messed up spectacularly.
DHL should be publicly apologising to the Colonel's customers.
Perhaps fake news ... The BBC» reportsIn the ad, KFC said: "A chicken restaurant without any chicken. It's not ideal. "Huge apologies to our customers, especially those who travelled out their way to find we were closed."
It also thanked its staff and franchise partners for "working tirelessly to improve the situation".

I don't think the BBC» are known for deliberately lying. Four days ago: Workers are being encouraged to take holiday

I am not impressed with DHL. They have lost a package of lithium batteries, believed confiscated by the authorities as prohibited from air transport. That is why the package was marked "LITHIUM BATTERIES. SURFACE TRANSPORT ONLY. DO NOT UPLIFT BY AIR"

A proper intercity train has a minimum of 8 coaches, gangwayed throughout, with first at one end, and a full sized buffet car between first and standard. It has space for cycles, surfboards, luggage etc. A 5 car DMU▸ is not a proper inter-city train. The 5+5 and 9 car DMUs are almost as bad.

Indeed. I visited one yesterday (because of a train cancellation) and there were more things off the menu than on. They DID» have chicken ...

Oh the humanity! I love their gravy. Back around 1977, when a former schoolmate was then already manager of a small group of KFCs around Blackpool, he assured me that the gravy was made onsite from stock prepared with the unwanted bits of the chickens. I too loved it then, although I should think it now comes in a 25 Kg drum. Should you find you have leftover gravy the morning after a KFC feast, use a small funnel to fill a whoopee cushion, and breathe new life into an old practical joke!

Exactly how a good chicken gravy should be made. When I roast a chicken I'll nearly always simmer down the carcass and bones after all the meat has been consumed. Sling in some celery, carrot, onion and sage, then leave on a low heat for a couple of hours. Reduced right down, strained, then frozen. Perfect base for the next chicken dinner gravy.

Returning to the pasty diversion earlier in the thread. The World Pasty Championships went ahead at the Eden Project, Cornwall yesterday, despite the weather. The top prize, the Open Savoury (Company), went to an American pasty company with their filling containing barbecue pulled chicken, sweet potato, red pepper, courgette and... pineapple(!!!). Now I know how many folk scoff at the idea of pineapple on a pizza, so I imagine putting it in a pasty is just a step too far. Me? I think the filling sounds delicious, although I might be tempted to go for normal potato, rather than sweet. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/uk-england-cornwall-43278376Full list of winners: http://www.edenproject.com/visit/whats-on/world-pasty-championshipsThe conversation last week reminded me it's been a while since I've done any savoury baking. Once the shops are fully stocked again I think I'll knock up a few pasties. Or, I may just think, sod the effort, and go to KFC instead.

Back to kfc, both mutley and millbay branches have reclosed with signs put on the door blaming their new delivery partners. I had to settle for subway instead.
