The train became trapped by tonnes of mud and stone on Monday morning

A new image taken by a drone of a train that was caught up in a landslip in the Highlands has been released by NetworkRail Scotland.

The train was derailed in Monday's incident and the part of the West Highland Line involved is expected to be closed for several days.

Five passengers were on board when the train came off the track early on Monday morning. No-one was injured.

The line is blocked at Loch Eilt between Arisaig and Glenfinnan and the ScotRail Alliance has said Fort William-Mallaig services would be suspended until further notice.

NetworkRail Scotland are clearing tonnes of material to free the train and clear the line.

Hadn't heard of this incident. Problem the line being closed but glad no one was injured. Great photo! Interesting to note how well the track workers on the line to the left show up and how those on the brown grass background higher up do not.

They have got more problems than just the mudslide across the tracks. The whole bank above the railway has started to move over a length of about 8 carriages in a great triangle shape of displacement. I suspect that is the drone's primary target in this photograph. The spring at the top of the slide is also going to need culverting. It is going to cost a few bob to fix this I'm afraid.
