Engineering work shutting the line between Exeter St Davids & Plymouth this weekend, although on travelling via a replacement bus, hardly any engineering work seems to be happening, apart from an engineering train on the mainline outside Laira depot?   Does anyone know what's actually going on?

There were 8 engineering trains out this morning between Laira Junction and Ivybridge.  I assume its the annual track relaying possession.

Ah ok thanks, I was wondering if it was any work in relation to the Class 802 introduction this year, but clearly just routine maintenance.

In Exeter today, dropping younger family members back to Uni - one of whom is in Halls very near to St. David's.

There is a letter from NR» (Network Rail - home page) pinned-up in their building advising of extensive, and sometimes noisy work, starting later in January and continuing through to March, which seems to be about platform alterations and track re-alignments within the immediate station area (there was a lot of detail and I didn't have time to read all of it).

Works associated with Exeter Depot?

Who proof read the above ?

First line ;-

Planning consent for a new rail depot at Exeter has been submitted by Network Rail ....

Planning consent is what the LA gives the applicant for the applicant to proceed with the works specified.

A planning application is what the applicant submits to the LA for permission to carry out the works detailed in the application.

So, IMHO (in my humble opinion), the first line should read ;

A planning application for a new rail depot at Exeter has been submitted by Network Rail ....
