19:41 Westbury to Cheltenham Spa due 21:28
19:41 Westbury to Cheltenham Spa due 21:28 will be cancelled. This is due to a shortage of train crew.
There will be nobody coming off the 1756 from Weymouth as that is cancalled as well

This excuse is nonsense. It left 1 late from Salisbury and arrived 7 late into Westbury (having twiddled its thumbs at Dilton) as the signaller moved empty stock around in front of it for some reason, using the same platform. Then it got stuck behind a late running Paddington @ Chippenham. Source: I was on it

This normally comes off of the rear of the 05:44 Bristol TM‡ to Portsmouth service, being detached at Westbury. Today it appears that the set was outstabled at Westbury overnight (I suspect extra stock at Westbury overnight with the list of cancellations on Sunday) requiring an extra unscheduled empty stock move from the sidings. The signalling at Westbury doesn't allow a train to be routed into platform 3 from the Frome or Warminster lines if there are movements coming out of the sidings as there is insufficient overlap beyond the platform starting signal on platform 3 (this has been the case since the 1984 track rationalisation of the Westbury station area).

Shambolic.
Is there any reason why that train can't be DOO▸ ?
Where I have seen DOO in use there have been mirrors and cameras that are missing all along the line, and fare collection systems which give nearly everyone an opportunity to purchase before they travel ..... As a follow up and from other research, I have just come across a page that maps where DOO is in use. https://www.kingqueen.org.uk/category/accessibility/transport-accessibility/trains/

That signal positioning has also been a problem for HSTs▸ calling at Platform 3. If it isn't showing a proceed aspect when the train arrives, the whole of an 8 carriage train won't fit on the platform. Trains used to stop with the powercar past the signal if it was cleared - not sure if they still do.

The junction at the north end of Westbury station is to be relayed over Christmas as the track has come to the end of its useful life. There are calls for changes to the track and signalling layout to meet modern requirements Does anyone know if the Christmas opportunity is being taken to resolve issues, or is a bull-at-a-gate approach, with it being relayed exactly as-is even knowing that there are elements of the layout that really need attention and could be dealt with as part of this process?

Could they also reopen the old platform 1 whilst they are at it? Too much to hope for I know. But with Westbury station completely closed over Christmas what a golden opportunity instead of having to close the station again at a later date to bring this platform back into use.

It's appearing that the left hand (regular renewal) and the right hand (upgrade) may not talk to each other - with the result that both waste money over the years. I have a meeting set up next Monday - I hope I'm not told that we should have raised the idea before we knew there was an opportunity to raise the idea.
