We seem to have missed this (well I have, anyway): UK▸ first: Patchway gap on Great Western (between Patchway Short Tunnel & Patchway Old Tunnel) has just been wired with tensionless conductor bar as part of the electrification programme. Due to the size of gap (160m) it would have been difficult to wire in a tensioned system Other photograpahs here: https://mobile.twitter.com/25kv/status/1114928419383463937?lang=enWhen I was Designated Project engineer Conductor beam for Canal Tunnels (part of the Thameslink programme) we used conductor beam through St Pancras low level platforms through to Belle Isle on the ECML▸ . The technology has been used in Europe of high speed railways for decades

There doesn't appear to be much stagger in the conductor beam photographed above. Does it have less pantograph wearing qualities than catenary wire?

I’m sure there’ll just enough stagger, the pantograph actually bears on a normal conductor wire, clamped in the beam sections. Paul

The stagger is the same as wire, however is should be noted the distance between registration arms (support) for conductor beam is less than required for wire so the stagger may not look so pronounced

Rumour has it that the balises will be gone and the Severn Tunnel will be pan-up from 24th May (Empire Day and Q Vic's birthday),
Any confirmation?

So re-timed to coincide with International Surfing Day. Will there be special trains with room for boards?

As a surfboard is c2m long they would help with distancing on board. I'd like to see someone try to get one round the doorways of an 80x (and avoid the OLE▸ ).
Can it be done?

Surely not - wouldn't one or both of you fall off the end?

Posted elsewhere by 'insiders' on the WNXX▸ Forum: Severn Tunnel switch on delayed again from 24 May to 21 June "at least". A driver notice has been issued saying electric authorisation in passenger service is going to be 31st May. I'll keep a look out in case that gets rescinded, but it's currently looking good.

From the WNXX▸ Forum: 1L68 1422 Swansea to Paddington today (31/05/2020) was the first passenger service to run through the Severn Tunnel on electric.
