WW2 tank traps along the bank? Part of the inland defence line against invasion? Somerset was part of that I think. Old stretch of the SDR?

William Huskisson MP▸ (Member of Parliament) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: stop, look, listen.

Bingo. And very much earlier this evening.

Not far from Chaffcombe, CfN. Was that a deliberate wrong answer?

And the mentions of tank traps and Taunton were very apposite. Donyatt Halt was on the Taunton Stop Line.

A couple more pictures of this very rural Halt, now on a cycle route. I waited as long as I could for that signal to drop. Not sure when the next train is due.  Tongue

Ah, so that brick shelter is newer than the wooden one in the publicity and Google pictures - it looks much older in the first image. Presumably it's harder to vandalise, too.

That new shelter is awaiting a roof. Looks as though weathered bricks were used.

You would have a VERY LONG wait for that signal to drop as its a fixed distant that never shows clear, but you can pass it in the caution position without getting a FORM 1... Tongue

....and I should add that its in a much better condition than some of (actually, most of) those 'looked after' by NR» (Network Rail - home page)... Roll Eyes
