Subject: Consultation - South Bath Transport Options - closing 12th May

Dear Sir / Madam,

We’d like to ask for your comments on a project to improve transport in south Bath.

Details of the project and how to respond to the consultation can be found here: www.southbathtransportoptions.co.uk

This is an initial consultation on the concept and there will be further opportunities for you to have your say if the project proceeds.

Why are we contacting you?
Initial investigations have identified you as an organisation, statutory undertaker, agency or service provider with an interest in the local area. We think that the proposals could be of relevance to you or your work.

What if we have nothing to say at this stage?
We would still like to hear from you and would appreciate you telling us whether you would like to be kept informed as the project progresses.

The consultation closes on Friday 12th May 2017

Kind Regards,

SBTO Team

Take a look ... what do people think?

Reopen the S&D (Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway)?

Anyone who travels into Bath from the south of the city -  Peasdown, Norton, Radstock, Paulton and Shepton Mallet will know why I said reopen the S&D.

Never happen though.

I got one of these through my door. with a postage paid bit asking for comments to be mailed back.  My current thoughts are:

1, it is a scheme being promoted by Curo which is a housing association which seems to have morphed itself into a property developer,  but the leaflet looks a bit like it has come from the local authority or another official source which it has not.  It is really a private developer looking for views on and support for their pet scheme.

2, It looks to me as more of an attempt to gain support for the cable car option rather than a genuine consultation.  I personally have nothing against cable cars, in fact they instructively appeal, but then I live 2 miles from where it would be sited.  It seems wrong that if I indicate my support, that is given the same weight as someone who will have the cars travelling over their private garden.

3, it is sketchy on the detail.  The cable car option looks appealing but I think it runs the risk of being a money spinning tourist attraction rather than a proper bit of public transport.  It will only have two stations so to really make a difference it needs to integrate with the South of Bath buses.

From the Bath Chronicle

Quote
Bath will not be getting a cable car.

Housing association Curo has announced it will be scrapping the idea after negative feedback during the consultation process.

The cable car had been an idea set out with Curo’s south of Bath transport solution project.
