Does anybody know why the prototype HST▸ power car 41001 was in the shed and not outside (I didn't actually venture far into the shed to investigate due to the number of people)?

To quote the 125 group "Nothing to worry about. It's just getting a wheel bearing done." Taking advantage of the facilities on offer, no doubt. --edit-- Some of my photos from the day: https://www.flickr.com/photos/132934438@N06/sets/72157686110234353/

It was part of the deal to get it to the event. It needed a bogie removal due to a hot wheel bearing. OOC▸ had a suitable bogie drop and in the photo below, you can see its front bogie in the centre with the enormously extended springs. A classic case of win-win for all parties. The 57 bogie to the right was from under the lifted body of my third photograph above from yesterday.

Saw the Hymek pictured on the back of a low-loader, on the M4 (eastbound) near Reading last week, so now know where it was going.

Thanks to all involved for a fantastic day from start to finish. Any WR diesel fan couldn't have wished for a better line-up and the steamies provided the icing on the cake. The weather was perfect and the staff absolutely great. I hope GWR▸ appreciate the dedication and enthusiasm of their personnel.
I followed up the day with a Sunday visit to Didcot, to complete the GWR weekend binge. Marvellous!

Very funny. I'm starting to cross names off my Christmas card list - which wasn't very long to begin with. CfN.

William Huskisson MP▸ was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830. Many more have died in the same way since then. Don't take a chance: stop, look, listen.

from the GWR▸ press officeGWR open day scoops prestigious industry award and raises over £50,000 for charity
Monday 29th January 2018 GWR’s Legends of the Great Western open day at Old Oak Common depot has today scooped a prestigious silver Golden Whistle award for Outstanding Team.
Over 7,000 attended the open day held in September 2017, helping to raise over £50,000 for children’s charity Place2Be, and today [Friday 26 January] earning silver in the Institute of Railway Operators Golden Whistle awards in the Outstanding Team category. The gold award was won by South Western Railway for the Waterloo Upgrade Team.
GWR Managing Director Mark Hopwood said:
“The depot at Old Oak has been a central feature of the Great Western network for generations, helping to maintain a host of different train fleets throughout its long history.
“It is fitting that we pay a tribute to the people who work there, and the contribution they have made, and I am delighted to see them recognised in this way winning this silver award.”
The Golden Whistle Awards are dedicated to people who work in or interface with railway operations, recognising those who have gone above and beyond expectations to deliver excellence in railway operations.
The open day saw a unique collection of trains and locomotives, both old and new with a centrepiece line-up of traction spanning all 111 years of the depot and made the Great Western ‘God’s Wonderful Railway’.
