I'll dust off the grey flat cap for Saturday.

I attended one in 1985 so annoyed I cannot make this weekend's farewell.

Will be looking for plenty of photos!

I will be there, only for a few hours.  It will be to bid the 'ld girl farewell don't seem like 41 years ago I darkened the doors of that depot as  young apprentice, the HST^▸ (High Speed Train (Inter City class 43 125 units)) shed was all new and shiny, the factory still existed along with the turntable.

There are some depots that not only get under your skin they get into your blood; once OOC^▸ (Old Oak Common (depot)) you are always 81A

As a stranger to this area.  Which tube station/main line station is within easy walking distance of the depot, please? Probably staying in London and taking the tube (or main line if closer to OOC^▸ (Old Oak Common (depot))).  I note all the tour tickets have gone but if tickets still available for the depot then that would suffice. Just been given official blessing to attend.  Hopefully Mrs GBM will be shopping in the city.

On the OOC111 website they recommend East Acton on the Central Line (10-11 minutes walk) or Willesden Junction (Bakerloo and Overground from Euston) 12-13 minutes walk.  There is a bus (228) every 12 minutes from Willesden Junction to OOC^▸ (Old Oak Common (depot)). So from Paddington, I'll be using the Bakerloo (6 stops).

PS bring a contactless credit/debit card for the tube & bus. Don't bother with Oyster^▸ (Smartcard system used by passengers on Transport for London services).  Touch in only on the bus; touch in and out on the underground.

It's not particularly handily located that's for sure.  I wouldn't recommend Acton Main Line as although it looks close by train, on foot you have to dogleg to get over major roads so getting on for a 30 minute walk.

228 bus is the close public transport

I'm driving to Twyford and parking. Then train to Ealing Broadway. Onto Central Line to East Acton. Then either walk or TfL^» (Transport for London - about) bus 228, depending how I feel.

When I used to commute to OOC^▸ (Old Oak Common (depot)) in the late 70's I used to get the Central Line from Ealing Broadway to North Acton, which was closer than East Acton.  However, this relied on a path that cut through to Old Oak Common Lane:  I've no idea if this path still exists as there's been a fair bit of development around there.

I'll probably travel to Padd then Bakerloo line to Willesden J.

According to various map sources I've looked at, East Acton is marginally closer to OOC^▸ (Old Oak Common (depot)) entrance. By about 0.05 miles. Plus it's very near the TfL^» (Transport for London - about) 228 bus route, should I be feeling lazy.

Of course, there may be unmapped footpaths that shorten the route from North Acton.

Just went past OOC^▸ (Old Oak Common (depot)) and there is a ferris wheel positioned in the middle of the sidings!
