Evercreech - how I would love to be able to catch a train from Shepton Mallet along the route of the former Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway....

Yes indeed. Me too.

If memory serves me correctly, you live in the vicinity, brooklea.

Precise location is approx 250yds south of the site of the former Evercreech New Station, where the line crossed Pecking Mill Road. About the only extant railway structure left in Evercreech.

My grandfather was brought up in the vicinity of evercreech and I've heard many stories of his train journeys to school in the 40s/50s.

That was quite a low bridge, and the clearance between the bridge and Wakes' double deckers was only inches. Invariably, as the bus approached the bridge, everyone on the top deck would duck instinctively.
