From time to time, I receive requests to [promote / publicise / publish here / comment for further circulation] on a wide variety of issues. If those issues relate or are relevant to rail / other transport and may be of interest to our members and the wide range of surfers we attract, there is nothing at all to stop the originator joining us as a member (it's free, remember!) and posting him/herself.

The admin / moderator team all actively encourage people to sign up and post their / their group views.

a) It allows the originator to tune his/her content as he/she sees fit - for example to add an introduction - to suite the member base here

b) It provides a mechanism through which queries raised by other members can be addressed by the person putting the message out, rather than having those of us here having to second-guess him/her

c) It adds weight to the message by allowing it to be directly attributed to a source rather than being more anonymous

d) It prevents the view of the admin team (which may or may not agree with elements of the messsage) becoming mixed up in the original message, with the effect of diluting both

e) It shows a degree of respect on the part of the originator for the time and effort put in by our team; our time is limited and valueable.

f) It makes the admin/moderator team feel more positive.  I'm writing this morning with the thought about one of the messages I've received "if you can't be bothered / find the time to post your view, why should I - especially as I happen to think there are serious flaws and biases in your conclusions"

In summary - whatever your view, you are welcome to post and discuss it here within the terms of the forum agreement, and you are asked to do so in preference to asking our administartors and moderators to do so.

Do you have something you would like to add to this thread, or would you like to raise a new question at the Coffee Shop? Please [register] (it is free) if you have not done so before, or login (at the top of this page) if you already have an account - we would love to read what you have to say!

You can find out more about how this forum works [here] - that will link you to a copy of the forum agreement that you can read before you join, and tell you very much more about how we operate. We are an independent forum, provided and run by customers of Great Western Railway, for customers of Great Western Railway and we welcome railway professionals as members too, in either a personal or official capacity. Views expressed in posts are not necessarily the views of the operators of the forum.

As well as posting messages onto existing threads, and starting new subjects, members can communicate with each other through personal messages if they wish. And once members have made a certain number of posts, they will automatically be admitted to the "frequent posters club", where subjects not-for-public-domain are discussed; anything from the occasional rant to meetups we may be having ...
