Half a dozen quarries were linked by tramways down to Corsham station, with the last ones closing in the 1950s. This morning's guided wak (thank you, Dave) was researched with maps and old pictures provided, and we covered the ground of some of these old workings.

Where now you see farmland and rural roads ....

.... there may be signs of history hidden in the undergrowth ...

.... and you'll come across currently operational Bath stone mines ....

.... As well as the sealed (but with ventilation ducts) of old ones ....

.... And if you look carefully in the trees you can work out where the track used to go ....

.... with sometimes the sign being as subtle as in a change to the growth on old and new wall sections where the tramways went from one field into another:
