We're getting to the point we can see the weather forecast for Saturday - and it's "partly cloudy / 15 degrees" which is pretty good for our two dogs (and for me!). It's not been too wet over the past weeks, and so the going should be good, but I'll check that in the next day or two.
I'm the "Community Rail Officer" for the railway line from Melksham to Trowbridge (bit of a pompous title, but it means that rail industry people know where I sit) and I'll be at Melksham Station from around 10:30 on Saturday morning. Plenty of free parking there and I'll help any newcomers to rail - tickets from the machine, or if you're paying in cash from the conductor / guard / train manager on the train. Melksham to Trowbridge is £3.60. Children half price, dogs free of charge.
You can also park at Chippenham or Swindon stations and join the train that leaves Swindon at 10:36, and Chippenham at 10:53 and we'll meet you on board. Return fare from Chippenham to Trowbridge is £5.20 via Melksham and you can join the train there on the way back. From Swindon it's £7.20. Both Chippenham and Swindon station ticket offices will be open and the staff are very helpful. Anyone with a railcard, remember you can get a third off. As can groups of three or more adults.
Anyone wishing to join the walk at Trowbridge also very welcome - we'll be setting out from the car park on the east side of the station at about 11:15.
Once we get back to Melksham, those who've parked there can head straight off ... those who have left there cars at Trowbridge, there's trains at 15:02 and 15:48. For people from Chippenham and Swindon, the 15:21 train will take you back there.
