It's been suggested that one of the most effective ways to cut car travel /queues / greenhouse gases is (sorry) not the train or the bus - but cutting the need to travel at all. After all, there's a certain silliness in lots of people who live in 'alifax travelling to 'uddersfield to work, while at the same time the people with 'omes in 'uddersfield travel to 'alifax.

It's been suggested this applies for things other than work ... there was a suggestion that medical services coming to your door might be a way to go rather than central doctors and hospitals, thus cutting out the need for supported buses (yes, that was an idea floated with a degree of seriousness).

I was interested in Swindon today (a trip to BBC» (British Broadcasting Corporation - home page) Wiltshire for a studio rather than telephone interview) to see Amazon Prime as one of the adverts in the sequence on an electronic street sign ... in amongst a row of small town centre traders with a sprinkling of "to let" signs.

Struck me as almost provocative ...

I did all my Christmas shopping 2015 online, mostly Amazon because I would rather not waste my time in crowded shops etc.

As of tomorrow I'll have no reason to travel as I become unemployed through redundancy.

(Although I have reason next week to travel to Greece via Bristol airport)

Sorry to hear / read that Undecided . Been there - utterly awful at the time.   Enjoy Greece.

Seconded there richwarwicker.  Only been redundant once, and then voluntarily but in the end it was the best thing which happened to me.

As to grahame's photo - which is a stone's throw from where I live - interesting to note there are three To Let signs, one of the effect of on line shopping I guess (although I'll admit an on line café probably wouldn't work!)

Redundancy is a blessing in disguise and the timing couldn't of been better.
I'm probably getting the only chance ever to have the full summer holiday with my girls.
I'm well prepared, having known I would happen at some point since April 2015, all I didn't know was when it would happen until a month or so back.

I may even squeeze in a ALR (All Line Rover) or as a minimum a 3 day freedom of the south west, might even stretch to the longer period version
