I'm posting this item in 'the lighter side', because even the family saw humour in the situation.

From the BBC» (British Broadcasting Corporation - home page):

Quote
Penryn pallbearers push coffin on trolley after hearse breaks down

Pallbearers were forced to push a coffin up a hill on a trolley after a hearse broke down.

The breakdown left the cortege, led by a vicar carrying a cross, with a half-mile walk to the cemetery up St Gluvias Hill in Penryn, Cornwall.

A funeral service had earlier been held for Julie Wilson, of Penryn, at St Gluvias Church.

The trolley procession was filmed by Mrs Wilson's husband, Brian, who said it was a sad moment, but also amusing.

Writing on Facebook, he said: "Having been to military and civilian funerals, yesterday was sad for me but also the funniest. Penryn and Falmouth Funeral Directors, who have looked after Julie this last week, made the decision to walk her round to the cemetery with dignity."

Funeral director Roy Sanders said: "It was a the sort of thing that if we'd planned it we would have done anyway. We make things happen and we make things happen well."

Mrs Wilson died on 31 March following a suspected heart attack.

Rest in Peace, Mrs Wilson.

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post - a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London, depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.

Knowing the church and hill in question it is very steep with a sharp left hand bend followed by a sharp right Bend.

All I can picture is the sort of thing that would happen if this was a slapstick sitcom.

Thankfully it wasn't Foggy, Compo and Clegg doing the pushing.
