Today I attempted to purchase a first class ticket for the 08.54 Bath Spa to Plymouth on Saturday 23rd April (1C04).
First I tried a station booking office and was advised 'sold out'.  And that's sold out on all tickets not just First Advance.
That's never happened to me before, even after the reduction to 1.5 coaches - so I tried on-line only to get 'Service FGW (First Great Western) 1120 is closed' (11.20 being arrival at PLY» (Plymouth - next trains)).
A one off ?  Or is this now a regular occurrence ?

I can find first advance tickets for that train both the week before and the one after.  Perhaps there is some event that weekend which has increased demand?

Whilst gwr.com is not offering First Advance on the 08:54 Bath Spa to Plymouth on 23rd April, it IS offering First Anytime Single (^136) or First Off-Peak Return (^168) at the moment.

Indeed - but not with a seat reservation (I believe)

Argyle are at home that date, their only other home game in April is midweek, do football fans travel 1st class?
Also Plymouth city college open day, not sure whether that attracts crowds from afar

Or block booking for a party on that train?  In the accommodation (rather than travel) business, we were very busy and the whole area was 2 weeks before Easter because of a film being shot locally.

Trying to book the 1st Anytime Single online also shows that there are no seat reservations available.

There are no seats reservations available in Standard Class either.

Most unusual for a whole train to be fully booked nearly 4 weeks out.

University Open Day may account for some of it.....Argyle at home but doubt many Dagenham fans go via Bath! Why not nip into Bristol & give the Falcon a go?

There are no reservations available after Plymouth on that train so some sort of glitch in the booking system might be the case, unless everyone joining at London Paddington is going to Penzance.

I've just had a quick look, I don't think it's sold out, it is showing the service as being closed for reservations, not too sure why, I shall ask reservations team once they're in the office.

GW1120 is the train's retail code, the 1120 arrival into Plymouth is purely coincidental.

1C04 is now open for reservations. It's not particular clear whether it was a system fault or a different error due to the system showing 2 0700 from Paddington as a result of the revised timings. The main thing though.. it's open!
