You can watch most channels via iPlayer, 4oD, ITV Player, etc, even live. I have the BT TV box,which gives all these on the TV without having a smart TV, plus some internet channels - which is how all TV will happen soon enough. It uses the aerial for Freeview channels, though, so wouldn't help you.
