I've just received the following email...

From gwr.com
Quote
London to Cornwall sale

Travel between London and Cornwall for just ^19 each way. Sale ends 15 October.
With over 40,000 seats available for just ^19 each way, there^s never been a better time to visit the beautiful West or vibrant London.

So whether you want to explore Cornwall^s dramatic coastline, Devon^s picturesque towns or visit some of London^s most iconic landmarks, you can now do it for less.

Offer is valid for travel in either direction to and from selected stations between London Paddington and Penzance. Exclusions apply ^ refer to the full list of available routes.

Tickets are on sale now until 15 October 2015 for travel between 1 November and 14 December 2015. Tickets can only be bought from GWR (Great Western Railway).com or GWR ticket offices.

But once they^re gone, they^re gone ^ so get in early to avoid disappointment.

Sounds good, but already nothing available in mid-week for the day tripper! I've been through every weekday that the sale is supposed to be running and this is the result for Exeter. Plymouth even worse!

Not such a great deal when a ^19 offer costs you ^57!!  Huh

I think they omitted the rather essential word 'from'!

Out of idle curiosity, I had a look at EXD» (Exeter St Davids - next trains)-PAD» (Paddington (London) - next trains) on (randomly selected) 25th November and there are a fair few trains where ^18.50 single tickets are available, so  wonder why ^19 tickets are so exceptional?!

'Cornwall' might be the clue here?

I was thrown by the reference to Exeter in the original post...!

The T&Cs clearly state Devon and Cornwall and the list of valid stations include Exeter ao one would expect a reasonable offering.

I was in a hurry! The ^57 is actally for 3 people

Ahh, I did that a few years ago. Can't remember where we were going but I think we caught NatEx instead which seemed cheaper. I only afterwards realized the quote for the train was the total fare for everyone travelling. I also can't remember if we saved any money by going by coach, but seeing as most of my coach journeys were from Heathrow Airport then probably not.
