I know it's still a little way off, but does anyone know if there is likely to be the usual engineering work inspired chaos between Reading and Paddington this year (usually between Xmas and New Year)?

I must admit I thought there were plans to move the control of signalling from Swindon panel to TVSC» (Thames Valley Signalling Centre - about) but perhaps that can be scheduled into the 48 hour closure over Christmas itself.

That won't be the timetable for the 27th. The normal timetable (shown as WTT▸ (Working Time-Table)) appears 12 weeks out, then a few days later the actual service when engineering work is due to take place will appear (shown as VAR or STP)

Paddington to Slough will be closed 27th and 28th December. Diversions into Waterloo and Marylebone with buses replacing other bits.

I don't have full detail yet, should have it soon, but as far as I'm aware from what I have read, we will have a 2 track railway, so alterations for sure, but at least there will be trains to/from Paddington.

William Huskisson MP▸ (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post - a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London, depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.

I usually have to move a topic over to 'the lighter side', simply because it has become increasingly funny and decreasingly factual.  Roll Eyes
