This mornings HST▸ service from Maidenhead (ex-Didcot) was a 3 car Turbo.
It's been a 180 a few times over the summer - but never a Turbo
Is there HST fleet issues ?

From wikipedia: A wheelskate, or wheel skate, is a device used to lift a damaged rail wheel and enable it to slide again so the train can be moved for repairs.
Wheelskates are used by a variety of railroads, both passenger and freight. They enable the continued operation of rail lines that would otherwise be brought to a halt by a breakdown.
I'll add it to our Coffee Shop forum Acronyms/Abbreviations page.

William Huskisson MP▸ was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830. Many more have died in the same way since then. Don't take a chance: stop, look, listen.
"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner." Discuss.

For the inexpert - skates? The red item is the actual wheelskate. Has its own running wheels and enables a seized or damage wheel to be lifted clear of the rail so it can be moved normally at a maximum speed of 10mph

A problem like this would not take a set out of use as a spare power car would be utilised asap Edit note: Quote marks fixed, for clarity. CfN.

With IEP▸ now firmly on the way, how much money is likely to be spent on repairing major faults on HSTs▸ ? A power car cannot work without a gearbox, which sounds expensive. Will there be a diminishing supply of spare power cars in the run-up to the run-down of the HST fleet?

They've still got at least a couple of years to go, and given the high availability that's needed to run the existing service, I don't think there is much choice but to repair.

They've got to be handed back in a good state of repair as well or face a financial penalty just like National Express did when FGW▸ took over. Most components like gearboxes will more than likely be under warranty.
