Melksham to Motherwell, out on Sunday, back on Wednesday (later in the day).  1 person travelling, using a "Freedom of the South West" to its borders.   Holder of senior rail card. Don't want to be train specific nor to go via Worcester and Lichfield nor via East Coast round the houses.    Can I do better than ^98 on top of FOSW (Freedom of (the) South West Rover)?

Freedom of South West Rover, plus:

Cheltenham Spa - Wolverhampton Off Peak Return ^16.25
Wolverhampton - Crewe Off Peak Return ^12.50
Crewe - Preston Off Peak Return ^17.10
Preston - Oxenholme Lake District Off Peak Return ^12.40
Oxenholme Lake District - Motherwell Off Peak Return ^20.55

Total ^78.80

No need to call at split points, just pass through, as one ticket is a Rover.

Thank you ... they're going to love me buying that little lot  Wink ... just need to check through the meaning of "off peak" in each case.  Sunday OK ... do any have evening restrictions for Wednesday?

None of the tickets have evening restrictions.

You can leave Motherwell, Oxenholme Lake District, Preston and Crewe on any train after 0415. Restriction 2T

Crewe to Wolverhampton is valid on any train after 0900. Restriction CS

That means realistically, based on the timetable, you can travel on any train from Motherwell from the 0604 onward.

Buy them on line via the FGW (First Great Western) website, do it in one transaction and the TVM (Ticket Vending Machine) will spit them out in one go and you'll get Nectar points.

Good trip up ... now ... variation on a theme for one of my contacts up here - Glasgow (or Burnside) to Swansea - out on a Sunday, back the following Friday or Saturday. No railcard.   I've managed to get down to ^158 (from 172.70) off peak, splitting as per BNM at CNM» (Cheltenham Spa - next trains), WLV, CRE» (Crewe - next trains), PRE and OXH ... extra split at NPT» (Newport (South Wales) - next trains).
