Midford?

Too easy wasn't it?

Yep Midford. Where the GWR (Great Western Railway) viaduct once went under the S&D (Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway) viaduct.

Edit: A much better view of the location:

Sorry, I rather pounced on that. One of my favourite places.

I've said it before, a great film.  Second only to my favourite This Happy Breed, which also stars Stanley Holloway.  He's also in my third favourite - Brief Encounter.  Grin

I'd decided to go gallivanting on the buses yesterday with an ultimate destination of Taunton. A First West of England Plus day ticket was purchased for ^10. Pint breaks were factored in to the journey! Buses were:

40 Lawrence Weston - Broadmead, Bristol
X39 Bristol Bus Station - Bath Bus Station
267 Bath - Midford (break for an hour)
267 Midford - Frome
161 Frome - Wells

Plan from Wells was:

375 Wells - Bridgwater
21C Bridgwater - Taunton

...but I couldn't get a straight answer whether that 21C at 1818 was running. Traveline website and by phone said yes, First Somerset, Devon, Cornwall website said yes, Buses of Somerset website said no, Buses of Somerset on Twitter said no. Rather than risk being stuck in Bridgwater for an hour, I decided to take Webberbus 37/38 from Wells to Taunton. An extra ^4.50. Hadn't been prior to April 2015 I'd've taken First's 29 from Wells To Taunton, but that service has been drastically cut back

Observations. Inconsistent and thus unreliable customer information. The First buses got older and more ropey the deeper I got into Somerset. Got to see some parts of Somerset I'd not seen in a long time. Frome is a nice little town.

Some more pictures of the remaining 'infrastructure' around Midford:

The GWR (Great Western Railway) Camerton branch where it used to cross the main road through Midford.

Midford viaduct on the S&DJR (Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway), looking back toward the site of Midford station.

GWR Camerton branch viaduct seen from the road, across someone's back garden. A handy glazing storage area!

Finally, the pub in Midford, the Hope & Anchor is very nice if you catch the landlady on a good day. I didn't. It seems it was an imposition on my part to walk in 2 minutes after opening.

Some of the 1-star reviews on Trip Advisor seem to echo your observations of the landlady. Inexcusable behaviour for someone in the licenced trade but sadly common.
