Emergency services called to Thatcham station

EMERGENCY services were called to Thatcham station to treat a man who collapsed on a train this afternoon (Monday).

The man was travelling on the service from Bedwyn to Paddington when he suffered a cardiac arrest.

The driver of the train was also injured, however, when he fell assisting the collapsed man.

The train stopped at Thatcham to allow the passenger and driver to be treated by ambulance crews.

Both have been taken to hospital.

First Great Western has said that the Reading bound line has reopened. 

A British Transport Police spokeswoman said: ^Our officers were called after a man suffered cardiac arrest on board a train. Thames Valley Police officers also attended alongside colleagues from South Central Ambulance Service, and the man has been taken to hospital. The driver of the train sustained injuries after he fell whilst assisting the man, and has also been taken to hospital by medics. The incident was reported to BTP^▸ (British Transport Police) at 1.23pm.^
