this evening a person has been hit by train at Bodmin parkway. It's not showing on the journey update at the moment, so doesn't seem to be in public domain yet.
From RTT» (Real Time Trains - website) 1C89 or 1V62 is involved.

Confirmed - from First Great Western JourneyCheck:

Quote
Cancellations to services at Bodmin Parkway
Due to a person hit by a train at Bodmin Parkway all lines are blocked.
Impact:
Train services running through this station may be cancelled, delayed by up to 20 mins or revised. Disruption is expected until 23:00 25/04.
Last Updated: 25/04/2015 22:56

Again, that rather unfortunate use of the word 'Impact'.  Sad

Another update, from First Great Western JourneyCheck:

Quote
21:18 Newquay to Plymouth due 23:12
This train will be terminated at Par.
This train will no longer call at Lostwithiel, Bodmin Parkway, Liskeard, Menheniot, St Germans, Saltash, St Budeaux Ferry Road, Keyham, Dockyard, Devonport and Plymouth.
This is due to a person hit by a train.
Additional Information:
Taxis will call at stations from Par to Plymouth.

That's a lot of mileage in a taxi for some.

I've simply merged a few posts relating to this latest sad incident here - purely in the interests of continuity.

I had a taxi from truro to liskeard last night I'm glad I did not have to pay for it I'm sure it would have been around ^80 according to the driver he said that to plymouth would be around ^130 and I think there were 5 taxis going to plymouth so a nice little earner for that taxi firm. Would fgw be able to claim for the expense of taxis?

Faralities do go down against Network Rail....so I guess they compensate. I do have some sympathy for NR» (Network Rail - home page) on this point. It's hardly their fault

I agree, ChrisB - it's rather tough on Network Rail, to be held responsible for such delays, which are really not within their control.

As to the taxi fare aspect: well, to be fair, the taxi then has to make the return journey empty (unless, by some remarkable piece of luck, there is someone waiting patiently to travel from Plymouth to Par at midnight).  Roll Eyes

Delays arising from fatalities or injuries caused by persons having been struck by a train can be attributed to Network Rail, the Train Operator or both. It depends on location and circumstances.

I'm a bit confused.........so NR pay FGW (First Great Western) compensation in the event of a fatality for which they can't really be held responsible.........but customers don't get compensation in similar circumstances because it's "outside the control of the railway industry"Huh

NR» (Network Rail - home page) definitely get hit with (a share of) the delay minutes. Whether compensation follows, I don't know the details

A very tragic accident by all accounts.  Thoughts very much go to the train crew and  especially the family of the deceased.  It's not going to be easy for either to come to terms with.

Ahh I see, a link to a topic here. I thought perhaps it would be a link to another forum with more information. Strange that the fatality at Bodmin has had no press coverage. I won't repeat rumours I've heard, except to say the circumstances sounded unusual.
Two friends of mine were passengers on that service at Bodmin. I wont be posting or commenting what they told me, but it certainly sounded unusual. it was from them how I knew of the incident before journey planner.

We got told there had been a fatality at Bodmin when arriving into truro. I have to say they were very swift in organising replacement taxis. I wonder because it was a xc service the fgw station staff thought oh well send the bill to them?
