Taxi lands upside down on Shipley railway line - so trains are cancelled ?

A car blocked a railway line in West Yorkshire after crashing through a barrier and flipping upside down on to the tracks.

The AA Cars taxi hit the barrier at the side of the tracks on Victoria Street, Shipley, before landing on the line. The driver suffered minor injuries and was being treated by paramedics following the accident at 09:10 BST.

Northern Rail said services between Shipley and Skipton began running again at 11:40 BST. Buses were brought in to run between the stations while the line was closed, extending journey times by up to 40 minutes.

A spokesman for AA taxis said the driver was "all right; just a bit shook up".

The line was closed until the car could be removed

Erm: "The line was closed until the car could be removed"? That just goes to show what is wrong with the railways these days - why couldn't the train drivers simply steer around the obstruction ?? Wink

How on earth did he mange to break through that fence he must have been travelling?

Why? It's a panel fence with wooden posts, so it's not going to put up much resistance to a ton of car even going slowly.

Mind you, while it's not obvious from the report, that fence is behind the parking spaces by the taxi office. So the car probably was going very fast for a car park. You wonder how the reporter resisted the temptation to make more of the funny side of it.

It makes me wonder if it was parked against the fence and put it in first/reverse instead of the other.
a friend did that and went through a 6ft wooden fence, albeit not ending on the railway line, but somebodies garden

There were two inspectors at Shipley @ 06:30 this morning talking to Taxi/Minicab drivers at the station, feeling around the tyres etc.
Coincidence ?

What happened to the delayed passengers - taken home by a fleet of taxis? Could explain a lot. "Take one for the team, son, we need the takings!"
