On Saturday 21st March we will be taking a group of 13 beaver Cubs  with 5 adult leaders on the train from Thatcham to Bedwyn. We were hoping that we could get the kids for a quid each but that doesn't seem to be an option

They are walking back from Bedwyn to Thatcham (Saturday overnight stop in Kintbury)

Any suggestions on the cheapest way of doing this ?

Thanks

Whenever I take our Cubs and/or Beavers on the train, it is either persuading parents with Friends and Family Railcards to come along or I just contact the FGW (First Great Western) Group Travel people. I don't think I've recently managed to get 'kids for a quid', but the best I've managed on the group travel option is one free adult with every six children and I've never got the same 'deal' twice. I guess it will also depend on likely availability of seats as well.

Many thanks. Out of curiosity which part of the world are you in?

Pinhoe, Exeter. Most of my Scout Group's rail travel is local (e.g Pinhoe to Exmouth or Dawlish Warren), but we have ventured as far as London (once) and Bath (twice) in recent years.

Have any of the adults already got either a Network or Family Railcard? 33% for adults, up to 4 kids at 66% off. But the ^30 cost of each card makes it not worthwhile unless already in possession

Call Group sales at FGW (First Great Western) then....see what they can offer you?
