Here's a Silly personality quiz for you ... well - can't be too silly as I tried it out.

https://www.playbuzz.com/chrisdonald10/what-sort-of-british-railways-first-generation-diesel-locomotive-are-you

Quote
Under the provisions of the modernisation Plan of 1955 British Railways commissioned a series of diesel locomotives which were intended to replace ageing, inefficient steam traction. Some of these designs proved successful, whilst others did not. [snip] So which first generation diesel locomotive type does your personality most reflect?

I'm proud to announce that I'm one of the most successful designs, and still in active service on the national network

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: stop, look, listen.

Well it the Metrovick Co-Bo for me.

'Co-Bo' Class 28 diesel, built by Metropolitan Vickers and also known as 'Metrovicks'. This was the only BR (British Rail(ways)) main line diesel built with an asymmetrical wheel arrangement, having six wheels at one end and four at the other. During the sixties they featured in pairs on the Anglo-Scottish 'Condor' overnight express freight service, however they were deemed 'non-standard' during the rationalisation of the fleet and all were withdrawn in the late 1960s..

Another fascinating locomotive ... one preserved and running.

Come and see it on the Chinnor and Princes Risborough Railway.  If I am on duty, you are welcome to a tour of the Signalbox as well  Smiley

I was another 08, but a Clayton would have been good because I actually drove one once (under close supervision), in the station goods yard at Alnwick - so must have been in the sixties just before closure.
