The main problem with standby generators is that all mechanical equipment does not take too well to being left idle.  It likes to work all the time.  So when standby generators are requires they are notoriously unreliable.  This is not a railway thing it is a standby generator thing.

The poit about the third attenpt to start is just like when your car will not start on a cold morning. If you try too many times you have no battery left!

SWMBO (She Who Must Be Obeyed) and I were returning home on the 1746 SWT (South West Trains) service from Woking (1715 ex-Waterloo) and all went swimmingly until just east of Yeovil Junction where we were held for a while until a platform became available. Once platformed there was a further c.10 minute wait for an eastbound service to clear the single line from Crewekerne / Axminster. Following a good run to Axminster there was a further significant stop at AXM West Junction for another eastbound SWT service and also what was described as congestion at Honiton. Arrived at EXC about 2120 so I reckon we are due a 50% refund for the one hour late arrival back at Digby & Sowton.

FGW (First Great Western) please note: The SWT train manager provided regular, pretty accurate, updates on the situation.

Exeter Panel controls everything on the main line from (just up from) Cogload Junction to Rattery including Newton Abbot to Torquay and Exeter Central station.

So important it's got a power car named after it (if my memory is correct?)

43163 was named 'Exeter Panel Signal Box 21st Anniversary 2009' until January 2014. It is currently carrying the 'Plymouth - Britain's Ocean City' vinyl wrap. Prior to that it was wrapped in the 'rail-fly.com' advertising livery, a joint venture between FGW (First Great Western) and Singapore Airlines.

In this instance I can't claim much credit. Whilst I have pictures of 43163 in the vinyl wraps, I had to Google '"Exeter Panel Class 43" to discover that it was this power car that previously carried the nameplate.
