'Senseless' man stands on tracks as train approaches Truro station: CCTV

British Transport Police is warning of the dangers of trespass after a man stood on the tracks in front of an approaching train at Truro railway station.

Officers have released CCTV^▸ (Closed Circuit Tele-Vision) images of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the incident which took place shortly after 10pm on Saturday, December 20.



Investigating officer, PC Bob Edwards, said: ^A group of men alighted from a train at Truro before one of them went on to the tracks when the level crossing barriers were down, indicating that a train was approaching.

^Thankfully, a member of staff managed to signal to the driver of the approaching train who brought the train to an emergency stop.

"I am shocked and saddened to see that, despite our constant warnings, some people are still willing to risk their lives by trespassing on the tracks.

^This was absolutely senseless behaviour and I cannot overstate just how dangerous it is.

^I am now asking for the public^s help to identify the man captured in the CCTV images as I believe he will have information which can assist the investigation.^

My first thought was that if he really was "stood" on the track as stated rather than crossing the track as an idiotic shortcut, then the man in question may have had some mental health issues that caused him to behave like this.  If that is the case then perhaps condemnation (and use of the term "senseless" might not be the best thing, but he does need to be found and it made clear that he must not do this. 

Very glad the staff member who spotted him has his or her wits about them.  Whatever the circumstances they are to be congratulated on saving a life.

10pm on a Saturday? I suspect the cause is more directly attributable to alcohol.

Not necessarily, as some on the forum might remember I have had the unfortunate experience of three very close people to me that did not survive such an experience or action, two of those occasions were very late in the evening, one was a bit earlier, none of them had anything to do with alcohol.

Something to add until truro had ticket barriers the exit from the Down platform was down the ramp and off adjacent to the crossing barriers.
The no exit sign should be the give away this is no longer the case, but if he wasn't paying attention then I can understand him coming down the ramp.at the bottom of the ramp is a tiny fence that would force someone directly onto the level crossing rather than the old exit.
