End of Pacers In Sight

The Chancellor has made an announcement about rolling stock in the North. It appears to mark the end of the Pacers in that part of the UK^▸ .

An extract from the BBC^» report:

Quote

It means the Northern Rail and Trans-Pennine Express routes will see the current "pacer" trains replaced with new and modern vehicles.

Mr Osborne said in his Autumn Statement announcement that the current rolling stock was "ancient and unpopular".

I cannot help noticing the number of your post ! Yep, those old pacer trains are a devil, especially when driven by Old Beezlebub !

No details? It says "new and modern vehicles" but I wonder if they really mean that they have approved/funded the London Underground stock convertion. And did they say ALL Pacers or could it just mean the end of the 142s, which was expected anyway?

Don't DOO^▸ it, keep the guard (but it probably wouldn't be a bad idea if the driver unlocked the doors on arrival at calling points).
