Moderator note - this thread split off from a very different topic ... [here]

It happens on the railways too:

http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/train-driver-jailed-for-drinking-a-bottle-1051337

Making light of what (if the FlyBe story actually turns into a conviction, it is merely "arrested under suspiscion" at the moment) is likely to be someone who has a problem is a pretty cheap shot.

Also don't forget that the airline industry has a significantly superior safety record to the railways.

Bit of Schadenfreude doing the rounds this afternoon, eh? Person not convicted yet, not even charged, their whole world is currently folding around them. Airline pilots don't risk their very hard come by career by having a quick one for the road, so if this turns out to be true, then this person probably has some fairly serious issues going on and associating that with a rather silly marketing stunt by FlyBe is frankly a bit pathetic.

From the above:

and neither probably should anyone on here until the police and courts have concluded their work.

Moderator note: This thread is temporarily locked while forum staff decide how best to separate two very different stories about Flybe.

Bear with us.

I have separated the two very different threads ... and added in a note into each to help them stand alone.  Two very different topics, although both involve Flybe and it was natural for them to start together.  And unlocked - for further potential discussion (here) about the pilot arrest and (other place) about Flybe giving away coffee right outside St David's station.

Of interest might be this thread on PPRuNe (the Professional Pilots Rumour Network) where the aviation community are discussing it....

http://www.pprune.org/rumours-news/550308-pilot-over-drink-drive-limit-removed-aircraft.html

For awareness, the current Flybe Newquay to Gatwick and Manchester flights are operated by a single aircraft that overnights at Newquay and is usually crewed from their Exeter base (ie, there are currently no pilots actually based at Newquay).
