Was asked 3 times for my ticket on the 1546 Gloucester to Weymouth service today. Once on leaving Gloucester...where there are now barriers, second time between Yate and Bristol Parkway and third just after leaving Filton Abbey Wood.

Being asked it may be a record ... but I like the idea of the train being checked for new joiners after every station.

Some 20 years ago, drink-driving was not frowned upon but now it is.  Recently, speeding was not frowned upon but now it is.  And shortly - I hope - fare evasion will be frowned upon in all circle rather than being "cool" as it has been in the past.   And that means creating an ethos in which it's an unnatural thing to do, and people aren't likely to get away with trying.

I understand that Avantix (Ticket Issuing System used on board trains) machines are on a ridiculously long lead time from order to supply which has lead to a shortage of spares / working machines ... being rectified just about now.  So you may see your friendly (if you have a ticket / are happy to pay) conductor more in the future.

During the August Bank Holiday week I was asked for my ticket 3 times between Maidenhead and Slough by 3 different RPI (Revenue Protection Inspector, or Retail Price Index, depending on context)'s  all of them were surprised there was a 3 RPI's on the train ............. now that is team work  Grin
