From Saturday to Tuesday, we (the CRP (Community Rail Partnership)) will be counting passengers on all the TransWilts trains in order to help build up a picture of the line use and how the service is doing. We'll also be surveying most trains. Those regular forum members who read the CRP board (please ask if you can't and would like access) will have seen some of the planning going in to this, calls for helpers, etc.

Anyway - I've been trying to plan out the teams that are needed and the method I've come up with to look at and check connections is a timetable graph - so I've drawn those out for Saturday, Sunday and Weekday.   Posting here out of interest.

On each day, Swindon's at the top ... then Chippenham, Melksham, Trowbridge and Westbury.    A loop at one end indicates that a train turns back, and an arrow shows where it arrives from / leaves to somewhere else.

Looking at the bottom graph (Monday to Friday), you can see just how clever the timetablers have been in making use of the already-existing diagrams running to last December ... Saturday doesn't look too bad but Sunday with the trains every 3 hours early in the day, but with 2 in the same direction within 30 minutes later on, could do with some improvement.  It will be interesting to see the numbers of passengers!

The blue, green and yellow indicate the teams we need - I've put as much as I can onto a blue rota, but then find that we need further people to help (green team) with some trains and (!) a third team on Saturday and on Monday / Tuesday.   I do think we have enough people (and names have gone in already), but if anyone has a burning desire to help ...

Surveys / counts going well (I'm on lunch!) ... full reports to follow.   Many thanks to everyone who's helped so far.  Really great to learn about the usage and to have very good survey return rates.
