This particular item had to be posted either here in 'the lighter side' or in 'other ways to travel': after due consideration, I decided to post it here, on the basis that I'd almost inevitably end up having to move it here anyway ...  Roll Eyes

From the BBC» (British Broadcasting Corporation - home page):

Toilet world speed record attempt by Brighouse men

Two men are attempting to set the world land speed record for a motorised toilet.

Trevor Duckworth and Shaun Walker from Brighouse, West Yorkshire, aim to beat the existing record of 46mph (75km/h) held by a Canadian woman.

The attempt will be made at the Yorkshire Air Museum at Elvington near York on Saturday.

Let's hope, after the attempt, they are flushed with success.

If they are, it'll probably just be a flash in the pan.  Lips sealed

I was thinking about a toilet roll pun as well, but it was tearable.

There are various parts of the apparatus that lend themselves to puns but we all know that you can't beat the cistern.

An update, from the BBC» (British Broadcasting Corporation - home page):

West Yorkshire pair claim toilet speed record

Trevor Duckworth, the man who designed and built the toilet said he was "absolutely delighted"

Two men from West Yorkshire are claiming a new world land speed record for a motorised toilet.

The lavatory, ridden by Shaun Walker from Brighouse, reached 70.9mph (114 km/h) at Elvington Airfield near York.

Trevor Duckworth, the man who designed and built the toilet said he was "absolutely delighted".

The result has to be ratified by Guinness World Records, which has the current record as 42.25mph (68 km/h) set in Italy in 2011.

In 2012, a Canadian stuntwoman Jolene Van Vugt recorded a speed of 46mph (75km/h) in Sydney, although this appears not to have been verified as a world record.

Mr Duckworth said the record was broken in just one attempt run. "We are very, very flushed with success," he said. "It's been fun building. It's been fun with all the jokes and the backchat about it. It's been absolutely brilliant."

Mr Duckworth said he is now aiming to build the world's first toilet to break the 100mph (160km/h) barrier.
