Published last week ... Great Western Specification Consultation

The aim of this document is to inform stakeholders of the planned approach for securing Great Western franchised services when the current direct award franchise ends in September 2015, and seek their views on the franchise specification with a focus on the changes planned during the
5 year period from September 2015, and in particular to:
●● Provide stakeholders with background information about the current services on the Great Western Railway;
●● Provide information about the impact of major projects on the franchise;
●● Advise stakeholders of the objectives and expectations for the franchise;
●● Inform stakeholders of the options being considered for the franchise;
●● Seek the views and input of stakeholders; and
●● Give potential promoters of incremental schemes the opportunity for meaningful engagement in the process, including the opportunity to comment on these proposals and formally notify the department of any specific increments or decrements they may wish to purchase.

The closing date for consultation responses is 26 June 2014.

Some really important stuff for ALL groups and interested parties to look at over the next weeks.

I have retitled the board "2015 to 2028" rather than "2013 to 2028" ... as we're looking ahead from next September.

Oh dear although it's dated May 2014 I've had a quick skim through and note under Crossrail chapter 5.9 24* 9 coach trains. I thought they were going to be 10 coach.

Can't see anything on Dawlish mention of Tavistock but not extension to Okehampton.

Oh dear although it's dated May 2014 I've had a quick skim through and note under Crossrail chapter 5.9 24* 9 coach trains. I thought they were going to be 10 coach.

That change was included in the winning bid when it was announced a couple of months ago.  The trains are still 200m overall but by using 22m intermediate cars and 23m end cars they can get 3 sets of doors per carriage, and two less sets of bogies overall.

so possibly a good idea not to dwell on it here...
