Help please!  I know that an overnight break of journey is allowed on off peak returns but I believe there are some exceptions. I want to overnight break at Guildford on a Worcester to Gatwick Airport off peak return. Is this ok?

Are we talking about a Break of Journey (BoJ▸ (Break of Journey)) on the OUT or RTN portion of the Off Peak Return? There are four flavours of Off Peak Return from Worcester to Gatwick Airport with different routeings. All allow BoJ on both portions but there are differences in what you can do on each portion.

On the OUT, Off-Peak Singles and the outward portion of Off-Peak Returns are valid for travel on the date shown on the ticket and until 04:29 the following morning. If the journey cannot be completed in this time, the ticket may used to continue the journey on the following day. All travel must be completed by 04:29 in the morning after this second day. Time restrictions need to be adhered to on the second day.

This implies that you can only break your journey if it is impossible to complete it on day one.

On the RTN, Return portions of Off-Peak Return tickets are valid for travel until 0429 on the day following the last day of validity (i.e. one calendar month from outward journey). All travel must be completed by this time.

This implies you can break your journey as you wish within the validity of the ticket.

Thanks BNM. It was on "outward" break I was checking and (as you say)it does not seem to be allowed (as a journey choice)

Seems someone on FGW▸ (First Great Western) still hasnt got the message!

That message seems correct to me apart from the reference to 'Open' tickets.

Or is it the omission of what can be done on the OUT portion that you are referring to, SDS?

Can I add my question to the topic of a breaking journey on the return portion of a ticket?  Is it permissible to break for more than one night ie have a "little holiday"?

The journey in question will be Taunton to Ashford International travelling out on Saturday or Sunday, when the Super Off Peak Return fare is ^54.45 with a Railcard.  Routing is via St Pancras International on Southeastern, and FGW▸ (First Great Western)/London Underground.

Yes, that is fine, provided you complete all travel by 0429 the day after the last day printed on the return portion of your ticket. It would for example be permitted to join the sleeper service from London Paddington or Reading to Taunton on the night of the last date printed on your ticket.
