An ATM▸ (Automated Teller Machine, or 'at the moment', depending on context) I recently used in Belgium refused to accept me entering a 4 digit pin and insisted (by means of the 'continue' button not working) me enter a 6 digit pin.
00XXXX didnt work neither.

Gave up and went to use another ATM which also requested a 6 digit pin, but accepted 4 digits, and then got its own back by giving me ^50 notes...

In Europe, I've never had the fuss that you get here with ^50 notes.  Even ^100 notes never really cause any problems.

The opposite of that is when you take ^500 out of the machine and it coughs it out in fivers......

I actually seem to get ^5 notes out of cash machines quite a lot nowadays, the number dispensing them has certainly increased in the last couple of years.

In which case I would highly recommend Lloyds bank near St James' Park station.. Just checked my purse again and today I got ^20 in ^5 notes and ^30 in ^10 notes.. It is the best place for ^5 notes I've found in a long time

Ah that's going ahead is it?  There was a lot of talk about that when I lived nearby.

Yes - Lloyds do have a new and very nondescript shop round the corner, but have abandoned a building designed for them, and looking like a bank and nothing else. And the fact that this new restaurant was not (pseudo)Italian made the front page of the Wokingham Times.

The Link ATM▸ (Automated Teller Machine, or 'at the moment', depending on context) locator advanced search has an option to show only ATMs that dispense ^5 notes.
