Great Western Railway in Art - Bath, Nov 2013 to Feb 2014

Bath's Victoria Art Gallery is staging an exhibition of GWR^▸ posters and paintings from the 23rd November 2013 to the 2nd February 2014.

Admission is ^2.50

In conjunction with the exhibition there are also a series of free lunchtime talks (1.10 to 1.45pm) at the Guildhall.

^Tuesday 26 November ^Railway posters of the GWR^ with Ed Bartholomew from the National Railway Museum
^Tuesday 3 December ^GWR: the Bath to Bristol line^ with railway historian Colin Maggs MBE
^Tuesday 10 December ^GWR: a general history^ with Tim Bryan, transport historian.

While I'm sure all three of those talks will be well worth attending, the one by local Bath resident railway historian Colin Maggs looks particularly interesting.

William Huskisson MP^▸ was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830. Many more have died in the same way since then. Don't take a chance: stop, look, listen.

Went to the first lunchtime talk today. Very well attended with over 100 there and standing room only.

Informative talk by Ed Batholomew of the National Railway Museum on Railway posters of the GWR^▸ . As well as some familiar examples there were a fair few photographs and publicity material I had not seen before.

The programme of talks has been extended with three more lectures in the New Year.

^Monday 6th January^Railway Heritage Designation with Cllr Neil Butters
^Monday 13th January The Somerset & Dorset with John Baxter
^Monday 20th January Electrification - progress towards the future with Alistair Byers from Network Rail

As before all talks are in the Guildhall, Bath between 1.10 and 1.45pm
